Well, I hope everyone liked playing the former Big East Champion on Tuesday because the Huskers are heading back to Lincoln for their game against the Mighty Delaware State Hornets.
Last year the Hornets had a decent year and a step forward for Coach Walkers true first season as head coach for the Hornets. Keith came in as head coach half way through the 2013-14 year for then head coach Greg Jackson who was fired after a 4-15 start to the year.
After a 15-16 run in the regular season they made it all the way to the MEAC tournament title game where they lost to Howard. Their season ended with a loss to Howard in the CBI.
Unfortunately they also lost their best player, center Kendall Gray, to the pros. Kendall had a fairly stellar career with the Hornets and ended it with MEAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the year honors. Gray averaged 12.4 PPG and 12.4 RPG and finished the season leading the nation with 371 total boards. Leaving with Gray was senior guard and MEAC First Team member Amere May who averaged 21 PPG and 4.2 RPG.
The Hornets are currently picked to finish 9th out of 13 in the MEAC by the league coaches. Losing five seniors that include Kendall Gray and Amere May could hurt this young team in the upcoming seasons so it will be interesting to see how the talent has developed over the summer. Also to note, no Delaware State player was elected to the preseason all conference lists this year.
This might be a nice game to come back home to depending on how the Huskers play against Villanova two days before in Philadelphia.
