Film Review on New Husker Transfers Isaiah Neyor and Dante Dowdell

What is Nebraska Getting With These New Additions

Under Matt Rhule, Nebraska isn’t going to go heavy in to the transfer portal but instead find a couple of players to fill holes. That’s exactly what they did this past weekend when former Wyoming and Texas receiver Isaiah Neyor and Oregon running back Dante Dowdell committed to the Huskers.

What is Nebraska getting with these two players? Neyor has only one catch in two years while Dowdell only rushed 17 times for 90 yards last year with the Ducks. Looking to find out, I dove into the tape, here is what I saw.

Isaiah Neyor

When you watch Neyor from his time back at Wyoming, you can see he has a ton of talent. Neyor was at his best working down the field on vertical routes using his speed to get behind defenders. From there Neyor shows a good catching radius and the body control to go up and win contested catches.

For a complete breakdown of Neyor’s game, make sure to check out my film review below.

Nebraska needed a veteran at the receiver position and Neyor gives them that. His ability to win downfield and make contested catches will be perfect for the strong arm of Dylan Raiola. If Neyor has recovered from his knee injury two years ago, I think he can have a Trey Palmer or Samori Toure type affect for this offense.

Dante Dowdell

There is talent at the running back position as Emmett Johnson played well last year while Gabe Ervin and Ramir Johnson could return. However the Huskers struggled to get a high school running back after Kewan Lacy decommitted.

What I liked most about Dowdell on film is the physical nature he runs with. Dowdell showed quickness and vision but he would take on contact well and still maintain his balance. He’s a guy that could thrive as a short yardage or goal line back initially with the potential to develop into a more prominent role.

We don’t know much about him and there is limited film, but Dowdell can give the Huskers a power back that can complement what the Huskers currently have.
