Nebraska Announces 2021 Football Captains

They are, of course, pretty well known.

Jon Johnston

Nebraska announced this year’s football captains.

2021 Nebraska football captains are:

  • Austin Allen
  • Damion Daniels
  • Adrian Martinez
  • Cam Taylor-Britt

I have no idea why this was announced on a Saturday evening, but I suppose since we’re one week away from the season they might as well announce whatever they’re going to announce whenever they’re going to announce it.

All four of these players are juniors. I know that sounds weird, but it’s true.

Adrian Martinez is the first-ever three-time Nebraska football captain.

Captains were chosen by the coaches. I don’t think there’s any surprises here - these are all well-known, established players who will contribute this season barring injury.

Damion Daniels joins his brother Darrion as a captain. Darrion was a captain in 2019. Damion received his degree in communication studies in May, 2020 and he’s still around, hopefully to see the return of great Nebraska football.

Adrian seems like he’s been around forever, and he has. He can return next season and in doing so would probably obliterate every quarterback record in Nebraska football history. Martinez is on the Maxwell Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Senior Bowl watch lists. Martinez also graduated last May in business administration.

Allen on on the Mackey Award list this season. For no more reason than being an eternal optimist, I expect Adrian Martinez to have an exceptional season throwing the football. Allen should be a big part of that attack.

Taylor-Britt was second-team All-Big Ten last year. He is a huge part of a rejuvenated Nebraska defense. He will graduate in December in criminology and criminal justice.

It is one week to Nebraska football season.

Are you ready?
