Nebrasketball: Big Ten Opponents Unveiled

NCAA Basketball: Rutgers at Nebraska Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

By complete luck, I published a prediction article yesterday saying we would likely know soon who and where the 2021-2022 Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team would play the Big Ten Conference schedule. I say luck because that news just broke this afternoon.

The official graphic from Nebraska is a lot nicer, but it turns out I can just copy and paste the pairings from yesterday’s article.

2021-2022 Big Ten Basketball Opponents

  • Home: Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota
  • Away: Michigan State, Penn State, Purdue
  • Home/Away: Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Wisconsin

We will not know until likely August when any of these games will fall on the schedule. Prior to COVID-19 the league was releasing the schedule just a little earlier each year over the past few years.

As for the non-conference, Nebraska will likely not participate in the Gavitt Tipoff Games this year as they have fulfilled their obligation to the conference challenge against Big East teams. The Big Ten-ACC Challenge opponent will also still await unveiling and when the Nebraska-Creighton game will be played is yet to be determined as well.

The only for sure game on the non-conference schedule is the one year delayed start to the three game series against Kansas State. That game is slated for Lincoln on Dec. 18 after the neutral court matchup in 2020 was delayed to 2023 because of COVID-19 issues with scheduling.
