Two Husker Baseball Players Pick Up Awards

In case you missed it, the Nebraska Baseball team swept Minnesota in their first series at Haymarket Park in over a year. And they did so in outstanding fashion.

Cade Povich started off the weekend with a dominating performance on Friday, earning him Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors. He allowed only 4 hits, with no walks, and never more than 1 baserunner in an inning. This is Povich’s first weekly conference award, and the first Husker since Nate Fisher (3/11/19) to win Pitcher of the Week.

Povich wasn't the only Husker to have a strong weekend, and also not the only one to be awarded for his efforts.

Spencer Schwellenbach was recognized with the Jon Olerud Two-way Player of the Week Award by The College Baseball Foundation, recognizing his work on the mound, as well as the batter’s box.

Spencer picked up the save in the first game of Saturday’s double header, in the only close game of the series, throwing 1 inning, and striking out 1 Gopher. He threw 98 mph on his first pitch, despite having no work in the bullpen and overwhelmed the Minnesota batters. He did this all while going error-free and adding to his stats on offense.
