Big Ten Adds Another Game to Nebraska Basketball’s Upcoming Schedule

I mean what’s another game at this point right?

NCAA Basketball: Nebraska at Maryland Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Fred Hoiberg at some point was likely was on the phone with his wife as they were talking about the six day window between the February 20th game against Purdue and the February 28th game against Rutgers.

Both games are in Lincoln. This means Coach Hoiberg could finally take his wife out for the Valentine’s Day dinner he owes her which was postponed because the Huskers were playing at Penn State on Valentine’s Day.

Reservations were made. Sushi would be eaten. Wine would be drank. Tuesday night it would be. He was probably was even thinking of giving the players a couple days off so he could relax and enjoy time with his family.

Then there was a buzz on his phone. It was likely a text message from Shamus McKnight, Nebraska’s Senior Associate Communications Director.

“You’re not going to like this.”

Coach Hoiberg said goodbye to his wife before giving Shamus a call.

That’s when he learned that the sushi and wine would have to wait as the Big Ten has rescheduled the previously postponed game against Penn State for Tuesday, February 23rd.

Obviously, none of what I just wrote happened.

Well, except the scheduling of another game on February 23rd.

However, I thought it would be fun to think of Hoiberg’s reaction to adding another game in the middle of a window in which he and the players likely would have enjoyed a little break from the current onslaught of games that they have been going through since February 6th.

Here is the statement from the Athletic Department:

The Big Ten Conference announced an update to Nebraska’s upcoming men’s basketball schedule on Wednesday.

The Huskers will now host Penn State on Tuesday, Feb. 23, with the start time to be announced closer to tipoff. The game will be televised on BTN and available on the Fox Sport app. The NU-Penn State game will also be carried on the Learfield IMG College Husker Sports Network.

The original matchup was scheduled for Jan. 30, but was postponed following Nebraska’s pause last month. With today announcement, three of the six game which were postponed have now been rescheduled.
