Nebraska Football: Offensive Staff Changes - Lubick, Austin, Held, Verduzco Out

Nebraska football has announced several changes to the offensive staff today, as Matt Lubick, Greg Austin, Ryan Held, and Mario Verduzco are no longer with the Husker football program.

Lubick was offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

Austin was offensive line coach and run game coordinator - I’m sure this one will make plenty of people happy. The offensive line was... decent on the interior but completely terrible at the tackle position.

Held was the running backs coach - I’m not sure about this one but look forward to seeing your comments.

Verduzco was the quarterback coach. I am certain this will have many of you cheering. Unfortunately, all we know about Verduzco was a data set of one.

Here is the full announcement:

Frost Announces Nebraska Football Staff Changes

Nebraska Head Football Coach Scott Frost announced Monday that the Huskers have parted ways with four assistant coaches, effectively immediately.

Offensive coordinator/wide receivers Coach Matt Lubick, Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator Greg Austin, Running Backs Coach Ryan Held and Quarterbacks Coach Mario Verduzco are no longer with the program.

“I appreciate the work and sacrifices these men have made for the University of Nebraska and this football program and wish all of them well,” Frost said. “They are all men of outstanding character and good coaches, but as we strive for better consistency and execution, we needed fresh ideas and voices on our offensive staff.”

I am surprised Scott Frost made these changes right now, but it appears to be a trend across the nation. A couple other programs have fired assistant coaches (Florida and Washington) in a clear move by their head coaches to save their jobs.

Please, comment with whom you’d like to see hired in their place.
