Nebraska Leads Purdue 17-14 At Half

Not a great half but our beloved Huskers lead.

NCAA Football: Purdue at Nebraska Dylan Widger-USA TODAY Sports

Purdue starts on offense.

Nebraska 7 - 0

Nice opening drive by our beloved Huskers. Gave up some yardage to Purdue, then started from the 18-yard line to get down the field to score. The drive featured a quarterback sneak from under center for a first down. A big play from Adrian Martinez to Zavier Betts on a 3rd and 12, and a direct snap to Jaquez Yant.

Good offense.

Scoring Drive: 12 plays, 82 yards, 4:36

Purdue drove to the Nebraska 26, tried a 36-yard field goal which was wide left.

Nebraska 7 - Purdue 7

Adrian Martinez throws a 45-yard pick six to Jalen Graham. This is after Nebraska appears to be in control of the game, allowing Purdue to move the ball on offense, but stopping scoring while simultaneously putting drives together to move the ball.

Whatever. We can’t have nice things I guess.

The good news is this happened now and not toward the end of the game.

Nebraska 14 - Purdue 7

Purdue appears to be allergic to defense on the next drive, which features Jaquez Yant. He has a 33-yard run, then an 18-yard run to the one yard line.

Martinez goes under center, fumbles the snap, but averts disaster by falling on the ball. He then makes a nice ball fake to Yant, then keeps it himself for a nice 4-yard TD.

Scoring Drive: 5 plays, 75 yards, 1:52

Nebraska 14 - Purdue 14

Nebraska appears to allergic to defense as well. Purdue executes a good drive, with our beloved Huskers appearing to be willing to give up rushing yardage as well as completions to David Bell.

Purdue picked up a fourth down to keep the drive going. There were no explosive plays on the drive, but the Boilermakers consistently made plays and yardage. There is almost zero pressure on the Purdue quarterback O’Connell.

Rushing Touchdown Scored by Z.Horvath

Scoring Drive: 14 plays, 75 yards, 6:57

Nebraska 17 - Purdue 14

Nebraska moves down the field until we get to the red zone. Then we shit ourselves. We run Yant down the field with ease the previous drive. In the red zone, we run Johnson for a short gain, an option for a short gain, then Martinez quarterback run for nearly nothing.

Nebraska settles for a 33-yard field goal fro Chase Contreraz.

Scoring Drive: 7 plays, 61 yards, 2:28

Half Time Summary

Martinez had Samori Toure open on a long pass just before half and overthrew him. Typical of our offense. If Nebraska had scored there, they’d have gone up by two scores. Get the ball after halftime and you could go up by three.

This is why we don’t win. We throw away opportunities as if they’re endless.
