Nebraska 3 vs Michigan 0 - 25-14, 25-15, 25-13
The volleyball monster is awakened as Lauren Stivrins takes the court. The whole team is better with her playing. Make room on the Nebraska volleyball bandwagon, folks are clamoring to jump on board.
Nebraska never trailed as Michigan offered little resistance while Nebraska rolled over the Wolverines. Everyone was surprised to see Stivrins in the starting line up but Michigan seemed just as surprised as the fans. They had no defense for her or the rest of the Nebraska firepower. Coach Cook said the decision to play Stivrins was made today based on how she felt in practice.
Hitting percentages were eyepopping in the first set. As a team, the Husker hit .514. All NU hitters benefited from a balanced offense set by Nicklin Hames and Michigan blockers trying to defend Stivrins.
Coach Cook was not surprised by his teams performance tonight. He said “when you come in the gym, you work hard, you should expect to play well.” The whole team played well and they sustained that play for the entire match. By the end of the match the team hit .462, with 9 aces, 16 blocks and held Michigan to a .198 hitting percentage.
Stivrins said being introduced was “a really special moment”. The Devaney Center gave her a standing ovation as she was announced as a starter. The crowd was on their feet again about 20 minutes later when she ran her first slide and earn a kill. She runs a beautiful slide.
Nebraska plays again on Sunday at 3 pm CST against Michigan State (7-4). MSU plays Iowa later tonight. Also in action tonight, #5 Wisconsin vs #7 Minnesota. You can watch on BTN.
