The Ultimate Husker Fullback Bracket: Second Round Voting is Open

Both Makovicka brothers advance to the Elite Eight. Who else joins them?

I have enjoyed diving into the history of Husker football on many of these brackets. I’ve learned a lot about players from yesteryear and learned interested tidbits about recent players.

The fullbacks may have been the most fun group of the bunch.

Brew’s highly scientific seeding system held true. All the favored players advanced to the second round. Both Makovicka brothers moved on. Davis (X2), Rathman, Franklin, Solich, Schlesinger...that is an impressive group of blockers and occasional ball carriers. You can point to multiple players on this list and credibly talk about altering Husker football history.

Second Round

It’s Davis v Davis for your first poll. Seriously, do some research on both even if you know who you want to vote for. They are both incredibly interesting. Polls close Tuesday afternoon.

1) Dick Davis – AC. Dr. Davis, Ed.D. is the only Husker FB to gain 600+ yds in two different seasons (’67, ’68) (NE high school sports hall of fame bio) (Sports-reference.com)

v

8) Tony Davis –Underrated on both the FB and IB list because he played both. Ended his career as Nebraska’s all-time leading rusher (2,445)!! (Huskers.com bio)

Dick Davis

Davis is one of the Omaha athletes mentioned in the article below.

Pickup football games at Kountze Park featured a collection of high school stars, many of whom later played on Sundays in NFL stadiums.

Tom Rathman

This one is more about his time with the 49ers, but I still think you’ll enjoy it.

Andra Franklin

Frank Solich

Joel Makovicka

Jeff Makovicka

I couldn’t find any videos about Jeff (huh, what?) Best I could do was this recap of 1995 Nebraska vs Ok State in which Jeff ran the ball 6 times for 55 yards.

Cory Schlesinger

His two touchdowns from the 1995 Orange Bowl
