I have enjoyed diving into the history of Husker football on many of these brackets. I’ve learned a lot about players from yesteryear and learned interested tidbits about recent players.

The fullbacks may have been the most fun group of the bunch.

Brew’s highly scientific seeding system held true. All the favored players advanced to the second round. Both Makovicka brothers moved on. Davis (X2), Rathman, Franklin, Solich, Schlesinger...that is an impressive group of blockers and occasional ball carriers. You can point to multiple players on this list and credibly talk about altering Husker football history.

Second Round

It’s Davis v Davis for your first poll. Seriously, do some research on both even if you know who you want to vote for. They are both incredibly interesting. Polls close Tuesday afternoon.

1) Dick Davis – AC. Dr. Davis, Ed.D. is the only Husker FB to gain 600+ yds in two different seasons (’67, ’68) (NE high school sports hall of fame bio) (Sports-reference.com)

8) Tony Davis –Underrated on both the FB and IB list because he played both. Ended his career as Nebraska’s all-time leading rusher (2,445)!! (Huskers.com bio)

2) Tom Rathman – His 881 yds in 1985 is the best ever for a Husker FB (7.5 per!). Hitting the century mark 4X is also best ever for a Husker FB. (Huskers.com bio)

7) Cory Schlesinger – Scored two of the most important TDs in Husker history after beating the crap out of Ray Lewis for 3 ½ quarters. (Huskers.com bio)

3) Andra Franklin – AC. Most yards ever by a FB (1,738). Rushed for exactly 122 yards, twice (Mizzou, OU, ‘80). (Huskers.com bio)

6) Jeff Mackovica – Big Bro steamrolled LBs for two straight Championship teams, averaged 6.3 yds/carry (Huskers.com bio)

4) Frank Solich – AC. 5’7”, 153 lb, baller. Solich is the first Husker to rush for over 200 yds in a game (204 v AF, ’65), the only FB to go over 200, and the first Husker on the cover of SI. Again, baller. (Huskers.com bio)

5) Joel Mackovica – 2X AAA. Dr. Mackovica, D.P.T., tied for the FB record of 9 TDs in one season (’97), set the FB record with 3 TDs in one game (OU, ’97). (Huskers.com bio)
