FINALLY, Nebraska has added the commitment of Iowa TE/WR Thomas Fidone II. The 6'5 225 lb. Fidone plays for Lewis Central HS in Council Bluffs, Iowa, across the Missouri River from the Omaha area.
Nebraska offered him last fall & have been all over him since, finally procuring his services for the 2021 recruiting class even when other major programs loomed large. The whole staff played their part in this recruitment, but special props go to Coach Frost, TE coach Sean Beckton, and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander for getting him to Lincoln.
Watching Fidone's highlights, the best conparison I can make is former Miami Hurricane & current Chicago Bear Jimmy Graham. His route running is so graceful I almost cried. His hands never let you down. His speed is perfect for the tight end position. Lewis Central almost exclusively uses him out wide, so his in-line blocking will need some work, not a task too tall for the Husker coaching staff.
Thomas seemingly had offers from every Power 5 school in the country, but his finalists were Nebraska, Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan & LSU. The extensive dead recruiting period imposed by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic helped us a bit here, as Thomas was never able to see LSU, Notre Dame, or Michigan in person. He made it to Iowa City a handful of times, but LMAOOOOOOOOOOO.
Rivals & 247 both once had him as the #1 tight end in the country, but currently have him ranked the 2nd best tight end in the country behind either Jake Briningstool or Hudson Wolfe, both Tennessee natives, and quite frankly they need their eyes checked. I'm assuming it is the Southeast bias rearing its ugly head again. However, both services have Fidone II ranked a high 4 star, one of the top 100 players in the country, and the best player in the Hawkeye State.
Thomas's commitment gave the Huskers 2021 recruiting class a massive bump, sitting at 20th in the country according to Rivals. 247 has us ranked 27th in the USA & 7th in the conference that Kevin Warren destroyed. We were formerly ranked #39 in the country on both platforms.
Welcome to Nebraska, Thomas!!!! GBR!!!!!
