The Ultimate Husker Fullback Bracket

New, 33 comments

Now, we’re talking. Bring on the fullbacks.

Our mad bracket scientist Brew has spoken. He is going to make redvalley pick between Janovich and Schlesinger in the first round. That’s cold Brew. Cold.

Most fan bases wouldn’t even dream of a 16 player fullback bracket. Tip o’ the hat to you Brew for not only finding sixteen fullbacks, but finding some really good ones! How did he come up with these seedings?

I wrote each name on an origami swan, put all swans into a Rubbermaid tub, then I pointed the end of my leaf blower into the tub and cranked it up to full power. The swans that flew farthest earned higher seeds.

I think that is as scientific a way to seed fullbacks as any I’ve seen. For quite a few of the players (especially from the 50s and 60s), the Huskers.com site didn’t have anything of substance for bio information. So, I did my best and tried to find something for each one.

Polls close on Wednesday August, 26.

First Round

1) Dick Davis – AC. Dr. Davis, Ed.D. is the only Husker FB to gain 600+ yds in two different seasons (’67, ’68) (NE high school sports hall of fame bio) (Sports-reference.com)

vs

16) George Cifra – Put up 550 yds in 1952. I wish I knew more because he played in ’51, ’52, ’55, and ’57. That’s a lot of redshirt years!! (1952 Daily Nebraskan article) (1952 vs Iowa State game summary)
