Corny Awards: Volleyball and Wrestling Winners

The votes have been cast, the ballots have been tallied, and now we have the winners of the first annual 2020 Corny Awards!

This off-season we have started what we hope will be a fun new tradition here at Corn Nation, the first annual Corny Awards! We compiled, with your help, a ballot for best of over the past athletic year in Husker sports and put out the ballot for all of you to vote in. Now we have the results and are happy to announce them over the course of this week.

As a reminder, the overall categories that were voted on were as follows:

  3. Best Husker football play of the season
  4. Best Husker Volleyball Player
  5. Best Husker Volleyball game of the season
  6. Best Husker Basketball Player
  7. Best Husker Basketball game of the season

  9. Best Women’s Husker Basketball game of the season

  12. Staff Writer of the Year Award

The Winner is:

Lauren Stivrins wins with 56.4% of the vote!

Second is Lexi Sun with 23.6%
Tied for third are Madi Kubik and Kenzie Knuckles each with 7.3%


Best Husker wrestler

The nominees were:

Chad Red
Isaiah White
Taylor Venz
Eric Venz

The vote breakdown:

The Winner is:

Isiah White wins first with 33.3% of the vote!

Second is Taylen Venz with 27.1%
Third is Eric Schultz at 20.8%


Best Husker Volleyball game of the season

Second Round of NCAA vs Missouri
vs Penn State
at Minnesota

The vote breakdown:

The Winner is:

The home win over Penn State won with 64.3% of the vote!

Second is the road win at Minnesota with 19.6%
Third is the second round tournament win over Missouri at 16.1%
