Homeschool Diaries: Teacher’s Log April 15
Recent lessons for the students have focused on forestry and horticulture.
Okay, they’ve been cleaning up downed branches, cutting out junk trees and planting potatoes and onions in the garden.
Part of the lesson also included designating a portion of the garden for growing food that will go to a local food pantry. Even though it won’t be ready until late this summer, it seemed like the least we could do given the difficult circumstances in which many people are finding themselves.
I have been a bit at a loss as to what I can do to help others during this pandemic. I don’t sew, so making masks is out. I can barely cook enough to keep the ranchhands fed, so taking treats to others doesn’t seem feasible right now. We live in a rural community where most of the elderly people already have family checking in and running errands for them.
So, I do my best to offer encouraging words and make an effort to reach out and see how others are doing.
And, we will tend to that special part of the garden. Hopefully, it will not only produce food, but also joy and peace for someone.
We can all use that right now.
