New Nebraska offensive coordinator and receivers coach Matt Lubick has received a two-year contract that will pay him $500,000 each year. Lubick had previously worked with Scott Frost at Oregon when Mark Helfrich was head coach for the Ducks. Lubick wsa the passing game coordinator and the receivers coach. Frost was offensive coordinator.
Now the two are back together at Nebraska, where Lubick is being paid $200k less per year than his predecessor, Troy Walters, who made $700k per year.
A number of other coaches received contract extensions. Tight end coach Sean Beckton, defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, strength and conditioning coach Zach Duval, inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud, defensive line coach Tony Tuioti and quarterback coach Mario Verduzco all received one-year contract extensions.
Those contracts are through December 31, 2021.
Mike Dawson was hired in January to coach outside linebackers, while offensive line coach Greg Austin, running backs coach Ryan Held, and defensive backs/assistant coach Travis Fisher recently received contract extensions.
I’ve seen a fair amount of grumbling about Lubick while poking around the social media landscape. Some complaints are about “Frost hiring his buddy”. Others are that Lubick’s Ducks didn’t perform well when he was offensive coordinator under Helfrich who went 4-8 in 2016, his final season at Oregon.
Whatever you might think, this is our coaching staff for 2020.
Will Nebraska get to a bowl?
Will you see improvement from this coach staff?
