This matchup between the two in state schools will be in place of the cancelled Florida A&M game that was supposed to take place on December 6th but was cancelled due to COVID concerns in the A&M program.
It has been well over a century since these two teams last met during regular season play. The last time was during the 1899-90 season. The exact date is unknown but the Huskers prevailed that day 57-3.
Nebraska has since played Doane in preseason exhibitions twice. The last one being a 91-63 Husker win on October, 30th, 2019 and a 71-64 Husker win on October 11th, 2011.
