The Nebraska volleyball team has a Red-White Scrimmage on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The scrimmage is closed to media and the public but it will be streamed live on Huskers.com, Twitter (@Huskers) and Facebook (/Huskers).
Who will you see tonight? You will see returning players Lexi Sun, Lauren Stivrins, Nicklin Hames, Jazz Sweet, Madi Kubik, Callie Schwarzenbach Hayley Densberger and Kenzie Knuckles.
There are four new players to the team. Kayla Caffey transfers to Nebraska from University of Missouri. You remember this 6’0’’ middle from the second round of the NCAA tournament. Missouri came to the Devaney Center and played very well against Nebraska in the 2019 tournament. She was second in the SEC in hitting percentage, .417 The norm with a grad transfer is one year but Caffey has two years of eligibility remaining so she should make real contributions.
Freshmen Anni Evans, Keonilei Akana and Kalynn Meyer also join the team. Evans is a setter from Waverly, NE. She started all four years for Waverly HS.
Akana is a defensive player from Hauula, HI. She played outside hitter in high school. She won two state championships and was named the state’s most outstanding player.
Meyer is a middle blocker from Superier, NE. She was rated the #4 middle in the country by prepvolleyball.com. Her mom played volleyball for Nebraska while Terry Pettit was the coach (91-94).
Team Red: Nicklin Hames, Kalynn Meyers, Jazz Sweet, Madi Kubik, Riley Zuhn, Lauren Stivrins, Kenzie Knuckles and Keonilei Akana
Team White: Nichole Drewnick, Kayla Caffey, Emma Gabel, Callie Schwarzenbach, Hayley Densberger, Anni Evans, Kelly Hunter (coach player)
