Nebrasketball: Huskers Make ESPN Impact List, Picked As Top Improved Team Nationally

Trey McGowens and Dalano Banton were named to ESPN’s Impact Newcomer list yesterday. The list includes all incoming freshman, graduate transfers, sit-out transfers, and junior college transfers expected to play this season. It lists the top-80 and a “Next 10” as well.

McGowens ranks No. 52 on the list, and Banton comes in at No. 67. The two join 12 other fellow Big Ten players.

Additionally, Nebraska was named as one of five teams tabbed by CBS’s Jon Rothstein as most dramatically improved for this season. The North Carolina Tar Heels, UMass Minutemen, Miami-Florida Hurricanes, and South Florida Bulls were the other teams he named to the list. The full press release from Nebraska Athletics is below:

Huskers Featured on College Hoops Today List

Lincoln – Nebraska was featured as one of five teams expected to make dramatic improvement this year in a feature by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein released Monday. The Huskers were joined by North Carolina, UMass, Miami and South Florida as teams which should be “vastly improved during the 20-21 college basketball season.”

Rothstein cites several new additions to the Husker roster, including junior college transfers Teddy Allen and Lat Mayen, as well an influx of transfers highlighted by Dalano Banton and Trey McGowens, and believes the Huskers have the potential to play in some type of postseason tournament this season.

Nebraska qualifying for the NIT would be a dramatic turnaround after the 7-25 record (2-18 in conference) from last season. It would also mark three of the last four seasons in the NIT, the first time since 2008-2011 the Huskers achieved that feat.
