Lavonte David is Corn Nation’s Ultimate Husker Linebacker

Despite only two years in a Husker uniform, David proved to be one of the most instinctive and effective linebackers in Nebraska football history

Jerry Murtaugh vs Lavonte David.

One led a defense for a national championship team. The other kickstarted the greatest comeback in Husker football history.

Both made plays that dropped jaws.

Ultimately though, Corn Nation readers picked Lavonte David to be the Ultimate Husker Linebacker.

As a JUCO transfer, David may have only played in a Husker uniform for two years, but what a two years it was! Swiping the ball from Braxton Miller to kickstart “The Comeback”. Much like one of John Cook’s liberos in volleyball, David always seemed to be in the right spot at the right time, even when no one else on earth had any idea the play was going to end up there. He is still dropping jaws as part of an excellent Tampa Bay defense in the NFL.

I believe Brew has a combined defensive back bracket for us before we wind up this series in favor of real life Husker football. Hopefully we begin to see players emerge in ways that find them considered for some of these lists in the future.
