Huskers Land Center Wilhelm Briedenbach

Hoiberg goes out west to pick up his latest recruit

NCAA Basketball: Nebraska at Wisconsin Mary Langenfeld-USA TODAY Sports

This is big. Not just big as in big man on the basketball court. But also recruiting rankings big for Fred Hoiberg and his team.

On Thursday afternoon the Huskers picked up Wilhelm Briedenbach from Santa Ana, California. The 6’9” center is a four star prospect who is currently ranked by ESPN as the #53 best recruit in the country for 2021 and 247 has him ranked at #92.

Wilhelm is the highest ranked recruit out of high school that the Huskers have nabbed in program history. So, this is not just a big get for Hoiberg but for Nebraska as a whole.

During his junior year in high school he averaged 11.9 points and 7 rebounds per game. He’s not only a danger under the basket, but also from beyond the arch. In his three years playing for Mater Dei High School he has also drained 47 three pointers. This bodes well for Hoibergs system which emphasizes long range shooting. According to Wilhelm, the offense Nebraska runs was a major selling point in the process.

Nebraska beat out the likes of Arizona, California, and USC for his services. A very big get for a big man. Congrats to the coaching staff who recruited this stellar recruit.
