Maurice Washington Dismissed from Nebraska Football

The University of Nebraska athletic department released the following statement on the status of running back Maurice Washington:

The Nebraska football program announced today that running back Maurice Washington has been dismissed from the Husker team.

Washington is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal soon.

That’s about as short a statement you can make.

Washington still faces charges in California for possessing a video of a minor engaging in a sex act and for sharing the video without consent. His case has been continued several times without resolution.

He hasn’t played for Nebraska since about the middle of the 2019 season. He proved himself a dynamic playmaker, but clearly the off the field issues were too much for either side to bear.
