Week 3 Cobs - The Worst Of College Football: Special Teams Disasters

Multiple mishaps on special teams in college football last week.

Special teams can be pretty ‘special’ sometimes especially in Week 3 of College Football. Let’s check out football this week’s cob nominations.

Northern Illinois/Nebraska Special Teams

Northern Illinois has a fumble by the punter Matt Ference, a fake punt run which came up short and a blocked punt. Nebraska had two field goals and an extra point blocked. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many special teams mishaps by both teams in one game.

Final seconds of Arizona State/Michigan State

A game tying field goal by Michigan State was called because Sparty had 12 men on the field. This is what happened next.

The Pac 12 refs also screwed up big time.

Iowa State Defensive Back Datrone Young

Iowa State was about to get to ball back with a final chance to drive down the field for a winning score against Iowa...and then this disaster happened.

Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins picked the worst time to call a timeout.

It led to this game-winning field goal by The Citadel.

Illinois

Georgia Tech paid 400k and lost to the Citadel but Illinois paid $1 million to lost to Eastern Michigan thanks to a late field goal by the Eagles. Ouch.

Another ‘special’ list of cob nominations for Week 3 of the 2019 College Football Season but unfortunately you can only pick one.
