Nebraska was too much for UCLA

Huskers volleyball beat UCLA tonight in straight sets 25-12, 25-16, 25-19. We had some ball control problems but they had a ton more. UCLAs serve receive was poor against a very good serving NU team tonight. Megan Miller had a particularly good serving night.

She served straight down the line and her served dropped off really well just across the net. Tough Serve! She finished with 4 aces and certainly caused some trouble for UCLA. Lexi Sun, Kenzie Knuckles and Lauren Stivrins also served well.

Coach Cook continued the sub pattern where Capri Davis comes in the front row and Madi Kubik plays the backrow. He did not play Hayley Densberger as the server for Stivrins tonight.

Sun was a play maker tonight. Sometimes she had a hole in the block and took advantage. Those can be “easy” plays for outsides. But when she had a solid four hands blocking her she found ways to score. Good to see from the #1 outside hitter.

UCLA had a soft middle (not from too much beer at the football game) but from not being able to dig balls hit in the shot middle of their court. Sun and Jazz Sweet took advantage many times. Picture a campfire and everyone stands around to watch it burn. Ball hits the floor. Point Nebraska. I imagine there is some tip ball coverage in Coach Sealy’s practice plan.

For Coach Cook’s practice plan, I imagine serve receive drills. We had more consistent passes tonight but I gaged UCLA as not as tough as Creighton at serving.

Stivrins and Knuckles were named to the all tournament team.

Next weekend NU is in San Diego where they Play #24 Arizona and #21 San Diego.
