Nebraska Football Recruiting: Wide Receiver William Nixon is N!

Hybrid WR/RB and Son of Offensive Coordinator Bonds with Coaching Staff

#All’N

Great news from the land of privately owned tigers!

Well, that announcement didn’t turn out so well for him.

Here’s one that has a bunch more upside: William Nixon has announced his commitment to the Nebraska Cornhuskers! William, a 5-11 185lb hybrid wide receiver/running back, was rated as a three star prospect by 247. His offer list contained the likes of Notre Dame, Penn State, Baylor and Purdue. Interestingly, his father is the co-offensive coordinator at Baylor, but has maintained a hands-off approach to his son’s recruitment. Will was recruited most heavily by Penn State, Notre Dame, and Baylor, but nothing really clicked until he spent time with the coaching staff in Lincoln.

Will is a very polished receiver. He runs precise routes, and works himself open most plays. He is also willing to go up or back to make the reception, and has great hands. Will has great field vision. He knows how to find the seam and get upfield, making brilliant downfield routes look simple and easy. As a hybrid wide receiver / running back, Will also adds versatility to the offense. He is skilled at finding the hole and squirting through it. If there’s no hole, he gets outside and around the corner well. I also liked that the full last minute of his highlight reel is him downfield blocking while other players make receptions.

He doesn’t seem to have the breakaway speed to flat outrun defensive backs, and he isn’t the type of guy that seeks contact or runs through defenders. He is a smart, disciplined player just like you would expect as the son of a coach. I foresee his career being something like Kade Warner’s: someone who doesn’t make many highlight reels, but just quietly makes the clutch plays that save drives.

Welcome to the Husker family, William! GBR!
