Nash Hutmacher, 6-5 285lb three star multisport athlete from Chamberlain, South Dakota, has committed to the Cornhuskers! Nash, affectionately know as “the Polar Bear”, had a litany of Power 5 conference offers as both an offensive guard and defensive tackle. Coach Frost and Coach Tuioti liked his balance and aggression, and thought he was a perfect fit on the defensive side of the ball. After narrowing his choices to Wisconsin, Oregon, and Nebraska, has decided to stay close to home and play for the Big Red.
Nash is a straight up machine. He plays both sides of the ball for Chamberlain, as well as other sports. He was state champion wrestler, and went undefeated last season. He attacks with great leverage, just like you might expect from a wrestler. On one play, he lined up on the center, got under the pads of both the center and the guard, drove them up the field, and threw them at the quarterback. It was borderline erotic. He also has great vision. There are a few highlights where the play got around the corner, and he took great angles and stopped a big play from turning into a score. He’s athletic, strong, smart, and plays with leverage. I believe the only reason he’s a three star is that he was initially evaluated as an offensive guard.

Frost and the recruiting team have learned from previous seasons, and are getting on top of the big guys early. You can see the attention he’s paying to the bordering states and to getting the top local prospects for trench warfare. Skill players can be recruited nationally, but the bigs almost always stay close to home. This was a big win for the recruiting team. The 2020 recruiting class is shaping up nicely - the quarterback is already in the stable, and all the top lineman in the border states are committed or Nebraska is leading. So far, this is the best recruiting job the staff has done.
