While the Nebraska men’s basketball season did not go as planned they are going to be playing in the post season. The Huskers will be playing in the The National Invitational Tournament (NIT).
Nebraska was picked as the #4 seed in the right side of the tournament bracket and will host #5 Butler this Wednesday, March 20th in Lincoln. The game will tip-off at 8:00pm and will be on ESPN2.
Butler went 16-16 on the season and 7-11 in the Big East Conference. This is the first game between the two teams in 33 years. The last meeting had Nebraska beating Butler 67-56.
There is a little connection between the two teams. Current Butler Athletic Director Barry Collier was the head coach of the Huskers from 2000 to 2006 and had a record of 89-91 before leaving to take over the AD position for the Bulldogs.
Tim Miles Statement:
“We are excited to have our season continue, especially for our seniors who wanted to return to postseason play,” Nebraska Coach Tim Miles said. “We had our share of struggles at times, but I think the way we have played over the final two weeks of the season is a testament to our players and the character they have. I believe that our performance at the Big Ten Tournament is a good momentum boost heading into the postseason, and showed a team that wanted to keep playing.
“We have been tested against a schedule that is in the top five nationally in Kenpom, including 25 games against the top two quadrants in the NET, and we are looking forward to the postseason challenge.”
