Alante Brown, 6-0 190lb four star wide receiver from Chicago, Illinois has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers! Brown was a late target by the coaching staff, receiving his offer on December 2. Indiana seemed to be leading with the young man although Ole Miss made a push once Lane Kiffin was hired as head coach. But Indiana’s offensive coordinator was hired as the head coach of Fresno State, so that relationship was broken. That put Nebraska in front at the last minute, and the staff made room for him in the recruiting class.
Alante was a quarterback in high school. However, when asked to try out at wide receiver during some 7-on-7 camps, he really wowed folks. So he made the decision to do a year at prep school as a wide receiver. He was used quite similarly to how Maurice Washington was last year, and boy did he look good doing it! His combination of football IQ from playing quarterback and natural athleticism made him a versatile weapon from multiple positions on the field. And if there’s one thing the Husker coaches like in a player, it’s versatility. He’s got a juke, a cut, a stutterstep, an extra gear, a spin, a kitchen sink... And the mark of a true star at wide receiver: there’s highlights of him blocking on his highlight reel. He’s got to stop hurdling tacklers though, there were like four plays like that. It’s going to get him hurt.
Alante’s commitment moves the 2020 recruiting class to a solid 17th, with 10 4-stars, and I don’t think they’re done! Great job coaches! GBR!
