So, the long awaited saga of whether Shamiel Stevenson will play has come to a close for the season. He has been denied a waiver to play for Nebraska until the 2020-2021 season.
This was the second waiver filed by the athletic department on behalf of Shamiel. The first one was denied along with the followup request for reconsideration of it. Nebraska will not file another and the case will be closed.
Shamiel transferred to Nebraska this past summer from the University of Nevada. He left after then head coach Eric Musselman took the open Arkansas head coaching job. Before Nevada he was at the University of Pittsburgh. He played for the Panthers his freshman season and transferred to Nevada half way through his Sophomore. Shamiel did not see the court at Nevada.
He would have been another nice asset for the Huskers this season and would have most likely had decent playing time in the rotation. Hopefully this year off will help develop his game and will be ready next season.
“I am disappointed and hurting for Shamiel.” Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg said. “We believed we presented a strong case on his behalf. We appreciate all the hard work that Jo Potuto and our Compliance staff put into advocating for Shamiel.
