So, we have another Piatkowski on the team. The son of former Nebrasketball great Eric Piatkowski will down the scarlet and cream under Fred Hoiberg. Jace will be a walk on to the squad. Or ask they say, he’s a “preferred walk on”.

This Husker legacy comes to Lincoln after playing four years at Elkhorn South and seeing plenty of game time his final three. The 6’4” 175 pound guard averaged 18.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game all while shooting 40% from three point range his senior year.

He was an honorable mention Class A All State Selection while also making the third team all metro team. Jace chose to walk on to Nebraska over Grand Canyon University and scholarships at a handful of lower division schools.

He’s a shooter and should fit well into Fred’s offense as time goes on. Jace has a good frame and could see some game time in the future. Some weight would be nice as 175 pounds is not going to do terribly well in Big Ten play. I would also imagine him working a bit with coach Doc Sadler to improve the defensive side of his game.

As of now I would expect him to do his time on the practice squad his freshman year with hope that his will develop into a player that Fred would be able to use. That is no knock on his ability. He is athletic enough and is a good shooter to play the game. However, it will be up to his development over these next couple of years that will determine his place on the team.

He is the son of a former Nebraska basketball great. I could go into his dad’s stats and history but that would not do Jace any justice. He is here to forge his own game and make his own name in the program. If he sticks to what the coaches want of him then he should do well in the program.
