Nebraska Recruiting: Noa Pola-Gates is N!

Huskers Win a Major Recruiting Battle with Bama, USC and Arizona State

Good evening insomniacs! Great news from the land of cacti!

Noa Pola-Gates, 6-2 180lb four star defensive back from Gilbert, AZ committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers! Pola-Gates, who hails from the same town as fellow Nebraska commit Ty Robinson, was a highly sought after prospect from the likes of Alabama, Arizona State, Penn State and USC. Noa was initially a heavy Alabama lean, but the Tide filled their spots and didn’t have one left for him. Then the major battle was between staying home near family at Arizona State, or going to Nebraska. The Huskers had an additional draw in that his cousin Keana Pola came to Lincoln to play softball, and was the only place Noa had the opportunity to play with his cousin Matthew Pola-Mao. Matthew had a commitable offer from Nebraska to play defensive tackle. USC then came on strong at the end of the season after they had a defensive staff shake-up. It was too little, too late. In the end, the family connections so important to Noa were strong enough to put the Huskers over the top.

Of course, Noa decided to announce his commitment during the Polynesian Bowl, which was played in Hawaii. In the evening in Hawaii. His lack of consideration for grumpy old people who live on the East Coast is a mark against him, if you ask me.

Noa’s film is lots of fun to watch. It’s mostly just him creaming people, whether they have the ball or not. He definitely plays with an edge. He also has a great vertical, and tons of speed. Pola-Gates adds a lot of badly-needed aggression to the Husker defense. His name is going to be called quite a bit in the upcoming seasons.

Pola-Gates is the 156th overall player for 2019, and the 19th ranked cornerback. His commitment keeps Nebraska firmly at fourth in the B1G, and moves the ranking to 20th. His commitment is a big recruiting win for the coaching staff. Welcome to the Husker family, Noa! GBR!
