*Update. This article originally published with a new start time of Sunday morning at 10:30 am CDT. Since then, Fox has pulled that announcement and multiple sources are saying the game is cancelled.
Update 2: It’s official. Cancelled.
The Scott Frost experience lasted all of one play Saturday night. The Huskers and the Akron Zips managed to get in the opening kickoff before lightning struck within an eight mile radius of Memorial Stadium.
The weather started out with a few individual lightning strikes right as kickoff happened and then moved to a torrential downpour with 80 mile per hour winds approaching Lincoln closer to ten.
The stadium had to be evacuated, while in the city of Lincoln, numerous power outages were reported.
The first reports of a cancellation came in just after the severe storms had moved through Lincoln. It was then worded as a cancellation, but further reports showed that the game had been moved to Sunday at 10:30 local time. Shortly after, the narrative again changed and an announcement that the game was cancelled came from Fox.
We will update you as we learn more.
