Huskers wide receiver JD Spielman was named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list this morning. This is Spielman’s second watch list honor as he was added to the Paul Biletnikoff Watch list last week.
There are 43 total players on the Paul Hornung Watch list, an award given to the most versatile player in college football. While that’s a lot of guys on a watch list, we’ve still gotten more Huskers on watch list than I expected this season. That must be the #Frosteffect, right?
Spielman set Nebraska freshman records last season in receptions (55), receiving yards (830), 100-yard receiving games (two) and all-purpose yards (1,572) as he played as a kick returner as well as receiver.
Certainly Spielman is a guy that Nebraska fans will look to to provide some explosive plays this season. Nebraska has never won a Hornung Award - the closest was Ameer Abdullah being a finalist in 2014.
