Mosai Newsom, 6-5 252lb three star defensive end, has committed to the Cornhuskers! This Waverly, IA native had offers from several B1G teams, and was heavily courted by Iowa and Minnesota. Newsom, however, was heavily enamored with Nebraska right from the start. After three unofficial visits in the spring, Frost and Company were in the driver’s seat, and closed the deal today.
Mosai Newsom is an athletic defensive end. He uses his height to great effect, proving especially disruptive in passing situations. He has a nose for the ball and wraps up when tackling. He has a tendency to sidestep the offensive lineman then penetrate to the runner. I wish he would stand that guy up for a second before breaking to the ball to prevent a block in the second level. He is a lean multisport athlete, playing basketball as well. This is another player with a good frame that Zach Duval can mold and sculpt into exactly what he wants physically. In a couple years with him on one side and Ty Robinson on the other, there are going to be record numbers of sacks and pass break-ups on third down.
The 2019 Husker recruiting class has gained some traction in the last week or so. Newsom’s addition brings the ranking to 24, directly behind Minnesota and Purdue. The recruiting momentum is starting to pick up, let’s see where it takes us! GBR!
