Great news from the state of Mardi Gras!
Matthew Anderson, 6-7 250lb offensive tackle from Leesville, Louisiana has committed to the Huskers! Anderson visited Lincoln on Monday Jun 4 with his father and after a phenomenal visit, almost committed. Wisely, he decided to go home and let the “visit high” wear off. Today he decided to celebrate his birthday by making his decision public.
Anderson’s offer list is not exemplary. Mostly, there are regional offers due to his weight, such as Louisiana-Monroe and McNeese State. Additionally, he has only been playing football for a year. The staff evaluated his frame and playing style and decided there was lots of potential. It was stated that the staff would rather build good weight than try to take off bad weight.
Anderson’s ability as a blocker is unparalleled:
Anderson utilizes good use of hands, but needs to build punch at the point of contact. This is no doubt due to his lean frame; he was 235 to start the season. He plays with a nasty edge to make up for his weight. This is a development project, but one with upside. Of note, three of Wisconson’s projected starting offensive linemen for 2018 weighed under 250 when they reported, and were recruited as a tight end, a defensive end, and a 215lb athlete. This is the modern method of building mobile, athletic offensive linemen critical to Frost’s spread offense.
Welcome to the Husker family, Matthew! GBR!
