Frosted Flakes: Moving On

Not everything last forever. Take advantage while you can.

I had two topics that I wanted to cover in Flakes today. As I sit here in front of my computer I believe that I have lost the interest or passion to discuss these two. Last week I was inspired but that feeling has left me.

The first one was over the upcoming loss of my town’s weekly newspaper. The second was the passing of Anthony Bourdain.

There are times in our lives when we really just need to take full advantage of inspiration when it comes. As with many things, it is fleeting. I am sure I will breach both subjects here at some point so I’m not terribly worried that you are all missing out on anything.

I guess what you can take now is that nothing lasts forever. As a society we will miss Anthony’s writing and travel show. As a town I and other will miss our weekly news. No matter how you look at it we all have to move on at some point.

I am not trying to trivialize death here. I guess I am stepping back and attempting to take a larger view of things. Sometimes that is the only way you can move on. Maybe by not writing today I am moving on.

There is a great article under “More Noise and Other Disturbances” about a family out in Western Nebraska that still does cattle drives. Something you don’t see much of anymore. Today they’re still doing it, but down the road it could change. Those cattle drives could be gone. Technology and the lack of help have made it more difficult to do. A lot of time and effort goes into those drives.

The next generation may not want to put the work in.

Anyway, on to flakes...
