Redshirt freshman linebacker Willie Hampton has been granted his scholarship release and will be transferring from Nebraska.

Hampton announced his departure on twitter earlier this evening.

After prayer, talking with my mom and a good conversation with Coach Frost, I would like to announce that I have been granted my release from Nebraska, and will be transferring to play football.

I would like to thank Coach Riley, Coach Bray and the rest of their staff for giving me the opportunity to to play here at the University of Nebraska and helping me improve as a player Also, I would like to thank Coach Frost, Coach Dewitt and the rest of this staff for helping me to improve as a player also.

To my brothers on the team, we built a bond that would last a lifetime I thank y’all for making my time in Lincoln something to remember. Also helping me grow as a player.

All of you will be missed. I wish y’all good luck this year.

Hampton is the second middle linebacker to transfer as Andrew Ward announced his departure a couple weeks ago.

Hampton was a three-star recruit out of West Palm Beach, Florida in the 2017 class. He was the first recruit of the 2017 class. He had three tackles for the Red team in the spring game.

We at Corn Nation wish Willie the best in his future endeavors!
