We’re all the way down to 99. Here are a few factoids related to Husker football and the number 99.
- The last Nebraska conference championship (/sniffles //sobs) came in 1999. That team, coached by Frank Solich, posted a 12-1 mark with the lone loss coming at the hands of Texas. The Huskers got revenge on the Longhorns by beating them in the Big 12 conference championship game.
- In a tie for longest pass play in NCAA history is this yolo bomb from Tommy Armstrong to Quincy Enunwa in the 2014 Gator Bowl vs Georgia.
- Current Husker player to wear #99 - Peyton Newell. I did a little searching but didn’t come up with much for names or tidbits related to other players to wear #99. If you think of any, put it in the comments!
- Another recent 99 yard play is Kenny Bell’s kick return vs Penn State in 2013. That game was a 23-20 Nebraska victory in overtime.
