Big-Bodied Back Builds Ballast Between Burly Brutish Blockers

Warning: I love musicals. Deal with it.

Great news from the state of Oklahoma! No, Boomer Sooner was not replaced as a fight song and made illegal to ever be played again, punishable by a fiery death in a burning oil well.

Three star running back Thomas Grayson has committed to Nebraska! 6-1 190lb Grayson held offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Tennessee and various other Power Five schools. Grayson visited Nebraska over the weekend for its Junior Day and was impressed by the way practices were run, as well as how the schemes meshed with his particular skills. He mulled things over on the way back to Tulsa Oklahoma, canceled a scheduled visit to Tennessee, and announced his commitment to the Huskers. Ryan Held, regional recruiter for Oklahoma as well as future position coach for Grayson, did great work here.

Incidentally, Tulsa OK boasts the Admiral Twin drive-in movie theater, which is the 2nd largest drive-in movie theater in the world. Still, Grayson stated he thought Lincoln offered more to do. Go Lincoln!

Grayson is a one-cut-and-run, north-south type of runner. He likes the inside zone, and is more likely to drop a shoulder pad or deliver a stiff arm than juke a defender. However, his frame coupled with his speed makes this a very effective tactic. He ran for 1333 yards and 19 touchdowns his junior year. Grayson will compliment a speedy wide receiver/all-purpose back very effectively, adding a style of attack similar to Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount, although hopefully without the between-play altercations.

Grayson’s commitment moves the Huskers to 32nd overall, 8th(!) in the B1G. It’s early in the recruiting game for 2019, so these numbers don’t mean a lot at this point. After all, the Huskers went from 94th to 21st over the course of a couple months last fall. Welcome to the Cornhusker family, Thomas! GBR!
