Big games and big wins were on the docket this weekend in the NCAA tournament. First off we had the little engine that could, #11 Loyola Chicago, pull off another nice upset over #9 Kansas State. While KSU is a good team, they are like Loyola where no one really saw them getting this far. But, it was a nice win and our feel good story of the week for college hoops.
The Ramblers will take on Michigan in the Final Four in San Antonio, TX. The Wolverines are the one ranked team that the Huskers beat this year that has had a good run in the post season. Whoever thought that they were a proper #3 seed must have known what they were looking at because the boys from Ann Arbor have made a nice run in the tournament and will be the lone Big Ten squad to represent the conference.
On the other side of the bracket we have the last two #1 ranked teams facing each other. While Villanova had little problem with dismantling #3 Texas Tech in Boston Kansas had to push Duke into overtime in Omaha for a stunning 85-81 win.
So, with that we are a week away from the end of the NCAA men’s basketball season. We are still waiting to hear what has or will come out of the Meetings between Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos and basketball coach Tim Miles. I am guessing that no news is good news for the head basketball coach and they are just ironing out details of his new contract and the team moving forward.
But then again, only a few people really know what is going on there.
Also, the Barkley Marathon happened this weekend. If you are unfamiliar with it then I recommend you check out when you get the chance. It’s an absolutely crazy race in the wilderness of Tennessee. It’s a course that basically eats it’s competitors. This year there were no winners crowned but I am sure a lot of great memories were had by all. I would like to say it’s a goal of mine to run in it but even I have my limitations.
