The Northwestern State Demons come to Haymarket Park in Lincoln this weekend against our beloved Nebraska baseball team. It’s your typical weekend schedule, with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games, starting at 4:05, 2:05 pm, and 11:05 am, respectively.
Northwestern State is from Natchitoches, Louisiana. They play in the Southland Conference. They were picked to finish 11th in the preseason out of a 13-team league and their current RPI is 159 via Warren Nolan, so not bad.
The Demons come to town with a 10-7 record after beating Louisiana-Monroe 14-3 in a midweek game and taking two of three from Nicholls State the previous weekend. That preseason prediction of where they’re going to finish in their conference may be off as this year’s Demon team has taken two of three games in each of their series so far this season. That’s their best series start since 2002.
Check out this comment from the Northwestern State site’s preview article on this series:
“We like to take one trip a year where we go see something new,” second-year head coach Bobby Barbier said. “It’s something these guys have never seen, something I’ve never seen. I’ve never been to Lincoln, never played there. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I know Nicholls went there last year and coach (Seth) Thibodeaux said it was a great place to play. They draw good crowds and have a great environment.”
They expect GOOD CROWDS, so get out to Haymarket Park and show them kids from Loosiana what it’s like to play baseball in Nebraska!
Demon Players to Watch

- #1 David Fry (Senior INF): Leads the team in hits (26), doubles (9) and RBIs (12), while batting .377, tied for the team high
- #7 Ridge Heisler (Junior LHP): Is 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA and a team-high 27 strikeouts over 28.1 innings in four starts this season

HELP OUT A GOOD CAUSE
Here’s the thing. Matthew Malone runs a really large Husker Facebook page called Husker Army. He is trying to raise money for Steve Warren’s DREAM Foundation. Warren’s foundation helps local at-risk kids in Omaha.
Malone is trying to raise $2,500.
Sometimes we post our articles in his Facebook group... if for no other reason than to see what nasty comments we can get from our fellow, loving Husker fans. It is great fun.
Please help support Malone and Warren and the Dream Foundation and click that link and consider giving.
