NCAA Womens Basketball: Big Ten Conference Tournament-Maryland vs Nebraska Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

The Nebraska women’s basketball team got some good news tonight as they were selected for an at-large bid for the NCAA tournament. The Huskers earned a #10 seed in the Kansas City region. They will play their first (and hopefully second) round games in Austin, Texas.

Nebraska will play seventh-seeded Arizona State at 2:30 p.m. (CT) Saturday on ESPN2 with the winner of that game advancing to play the winner between No. 2 seed (and subregional host) Texas and 15th-seeded Maine on March 19.

Nebraska will be making its 14th NCAA Tournament appearance and its first since 2015, having compiled an 8-13 (.381) record in the event.

The Huskers join five other Big Ten teams in the tournament (full bracket is here):

  • Ohio State (#3 seed in the Spokane region and subregional host)
  • Maryland (#5 seed in the Kansas City region)
  • Iowa (#6 seed in the Kansas City region)
  • Michigan (#7 seed in the Lexington region)
  • Minnesota (#10 seed in the Spokane region)

Purdue and Rutgers were among the final eight teams being considered for the last four spots, according to information released by the NCAA tournament selection committee on Sunday night. Rutgers was offered a WNIT bid, but declined. Purdue will join Indiana, Michigan State, and Penn State in the WNIT.

Other Area Teams of Note

The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits earned a #8 seed in the Spokane region and will play #9 Villanova on Friday. Former Husker Riley Cascio Jensen plays for the Jackrabbits.

The Creighton BlueJays (including Husker freshman Taylor Kissinger’s older sister Brooke) earned an #11 seed and will play Iowa in the first round on Saturday.

Notre Dame, including former Husker Jessica Shepard, earned a #1 seed in the Spokane region and would play the Jackrabbits if both teams win their first-round games.

Amy Williams’ former team, the University of South Dakota Coyotes, will host a first round WNIT game on Thursday against Houston.

Join us on Saturday to cheer on the ladies! Go Big Red!
