Nebraska Recruiting: Pass Rusher Caleb Tannor is ‘N’

In 2017, the Nebraska Cornhusker football team made fourteen sacks. Fourteen. In a season. Only six of those were in conference play. To put that in perspective, Ndamukong Suh made 4.5 sacks in the infamous 2009 Big 12 conference title game. By himself. In one game, 60:01 long.

Anyway, enough about corrupt, bullshit conferences that pandered to pompous assholes.

To say that pass rushers were an area of need for the incoming staff, would be an understatement.

That burning need was further addressed today by the addition of hybrid OLB/DE Caleb Tannor. The 6-4 220lb four star recruit from Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, Georgia was formerly a Georgia commit. He decommitted from Georgia once they were pasted by Auburn. Then he was a heavy Auburn lean, get this, until the Peach Bowl, when they were soundly beaten by UCF. Then Nebraska offered, and Caleb briefly considered Florida, then decided to go with the winners!

Tannor’s highlights showed an impressive edge rusher. His height and reach caused many rushed, poorly thrown balls even when he didn’t get the sack. He was very effective at shedding blocks and getting into the backfield. I also liked how he used proper tackling form. (Wrapping up seems to be a lost art nowadays). His Hudl profile lists 4.6 speed, and he ran down several players from the backside of the formation. On running downs, he took bad angles sometimes and nearly gave up the edge, but made up for it with his speed and athleticism. That won’t fly in the big leagues, though. His frame has plenty of room to fill out and become a more traditional defensive end, but he projects as a hybrid OLB/DE in the Chinander 3-4. I feel we’ll see him contribute sooner rather than later.
