Good morning addicts of Husker Hope! It’s been 2 weeks since the National Signing Day Spectacular. Fearless Leader Scott Frost and his Superlative Staff put together a solid 2018 recruiting class, but what has he done for me lately? Well, it’s a little early to get any real granularity about offers and returned interest. There will probably be some changes in recruiting focus after spring camp identifies positions that need talent upgraded or a different style of player for better fit. But let’s take a quick look at some notable names to familiarize ourselves with over the next few months.
Commits:
So far, the main recruiting success has been with 6-3 in-state linebackers named Garrett. That seems to be an oddly specific recruiting target, but that’s why we aren’t D1 football coaches. #analytics
Garrett Nelson, Scottsbluff NE.
Garrett Snodgrass, York NE.
In-State Offers:
2019 and 2020 are both solid classes in Nebraska with respect to talent. Here are some in-state offers and interest:
Chris Hickman, TE, Omaha (Burke)
Nick Henrich, ILB, Omaha (Burke)
Both of these guys are four star recruits being heavily recruited by many top schools. It will be a fight to keep them.
500 Mile Radius:
I didn’t pull out an atlas and a set of dividers and cross reference databases and stuff for this one. Perhaps I should have called it localish radius. Missouri appears to have a better crop of recruits than they did even last season.
Max Duggan, QB, Council Bluffs IA. A top target for the staff.
Breece Hall, RB, Wichita KS.
Marcus Washington, WR, St Louis MO.
Jameson Williams, WR, St Louis MO.
Kyren Williams, WR, St Louis MO.
Danielson Ike, OT, Kansas City MO.
Jack Buford, OT, St Louis MO.
Barrett Miller, OT, Aurora CO.
Ira Henry, OT, St Louis MO.
Bryce Benhart, OT, Lakeville MN.
Trevor Keegan, OT, Crystal Lake IL.
Marcus Hicks, WDE, Wichita KS.
Isaac Townsend, WDE, Arvada CO.
Nakobe Dean, ILB, Horn Lake MS.
Shammond Cooper, ILB, St Louis MO.
Bryce Childress, CB, St Louis MO.
Daxton Hill, S, Tulsa OK.
Isaiah Williams, ATH, St Louis MO.
Star Gazers:
In pitch, when you bid ten, it’s called shooting the moon. In that spirit, here’s all the five star recruits currently offered.
Trey Sanders, RB, IMG Academy.
Noah Cain, RB, IMG Academy.
Devontae Dobbs, OT, Belleville MI.
Kenyon Green, OT, Humble TX.
Darnell Wright, OT, Huntington WV.
Kayvon Thibodeaux, WDE, Westlake Village CA.
Zacch Pickens, SDE, Anderson SC.
Nakobe Dean, ILB, Horn Lake MS.
Owen Pappoe, OLB, Loganville GA.
Henry To’oto’o, OLB, Concord CA.
Chris Steele, CB, Bellflower CA.
Brian Williams, S, Bishop Dunne HS.
Daxton Hill, S, Tulsa OK.
Bru McCoy, ATH, Santa Ana CA.
Isaiah Williams, ATH, St Louis MO. The staff is recruiting him the hardest of this list. He is a little light at 5-10 160, but that size of player works well in the Frostfence. The Huskers are recruiting him at QB, while everyone else is recruiting him at WR.
The real question is, how many stars are their hearts? Do they carry a lunch pail? How about the grit-to-spit ratio?
JUCO Prospects:
Frost and Friends will continue to recruit the Junior Colleges. So far there is only one offer out, but these will heat up over the summer. Like a prairie thunderstorm, JUCO recruitments typically pop up quick, happen fast, and are over with before you know it.
Nakia Henry, ILB, Dodge City C.C.
All Name Team:
Don’t underestimate the importance of the #allnameteam! These are the most important players for a recruiting writer who wants to riff on the occasional joke.
Grayson Boomer. This guy’s name isn’t that notable, except for the fact that he’s from Oklahoma, and he’s committed to Oklahoma State. How does a guy from OK pass up a chance to be a Boomer Sooner? There’s no justice in this world!
Keon Zipperer, WR, Lakeland Fl. I can’t wait to write the article about how the staff buttons up the commitment of Keon Zipperer. Some headlines write themselves!
Sean Dollars, APB, Santa Ana, CA. You have to think this guy’s a lock for Tenne$$ee, Ole Mi$$, or Loui$ville.
Nana Osafo-Mensah, WDE, Fort Worth TX. I’ll bet he got a good score on his ACT.
Knowledge McDaniel, RB, Bradenton FL. He doesn’t have an offer yet, but has talked with Husker coaches. You’d have to believe he would commit as soon as he got an offer; after all the initials of his first name are on our helmets, for crying out loud.
Henry To’oto’o, OLB, Concord CA. A kid who I’m forecasting will initially commit to Kansas, before being swept up in a whirlwind recruiting visit to Iowa State, but ultimately signing with Cal, because it’s closest to home. Please tell me this joke isn’t too obscure, because I’m very proud of it.
So here’s where to start for the 2019 recruiting season. There will be more to come once visits for the spring game get announced. In the meantime, GBR!
