Men’s Basketball Ranked

Huskers Jump into AP Top 25 - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

On the heels of a 7-1 start, the Nebraska men’s basketball team is ranked 24th in the Associated Press poll released Monday. It marks the first time that the Huskers are nationally ranked by the AP since Nov. 17, 2014.

Nebraska men’s basketball is RANKED for the first time since 2014!

It’s nice, but it doesn’t mean much right now.. except an acknowledgement that our basketball team is playing well so far into the season.

Next up is Minnesota at Williams Arena on Wednesday night. This is a huge game. Winning on the road in the Big Ten is tough, and then there’s Williams Arena. I couldn’t find the exact win record, but the Gophers win over 70% of their games at “The Barn”. It’s truly a tough place to play.

I’ll be there and I am sure it will be a blast!

Turner Gill Retires

Liberty head football coach Turner Gill announces retirement

“It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my retirement from coaching. In the summer of 2016, my wife Gayle was diagnosed with a heart condition. Both Gayle and I wanted to be here to help Liberty through their transition and we are so glad to have done so,” Gill said. “We have come to the realization that it is now time for me to step away. I can’t put into words how much this coaching staff, support staff and the players mean to us. We are so thankful for President Falwell, Becki Falwell and Ian McCaw and their support during our time here. They, as well as all of those mentioned, have been and will continue to be blessings in our lives. To God be the glory!”

Turner Gill is my favorite Husker player of all time. He was our beloved quarterback when I was at UNL, and he played the game with a beauty and grace that I have not seen since. Watching him run the offense was like watching ballet on the field (not that I have a lot of experience with ballet, but I imagine Gill would have been a wonderful dancer).

Now news comes that Gill is retiring from coaching. It’s not under the best of circumstances and I wish Gill the best.

Urban Meyer Retires

Urban Meyer retiring as Ohio State football coach after Rose Bowl, Ryan Day to replace him | cleveland.com

Meyer is 82-9 at in seven seasons at Ohio State, with a 7-0 record against Michigan and three Big Ten titles. Seven years was the longest he lasted at any of the four schools where he coached, following two seasons as Bowling Green, two at Utah and six at Florida.

And he never lost to Jim Harbaugh. I wonder what Harbaugh’s reaction was.

The Ohio State head coach is stepping down after the Rose Bowl, to be replaced by OC Ryan Day.

One could make comparisons to his “retirement” at Florida, but we should give him the benefit of the doubt, out of grace and decency more than anything else.

Meyer made the Big Ten a better conference. Football seemed to be stuck in neutral until he came to Ohio State, and you could say he made everyone get their shit together, especially when it came to recruiting.

Then There’s This

How Peter Jackson Colorized 100-Year-Old WWI Footage

“Because they didn’t see the war in black and white. They did not experience this war in black and white. They experienced the war in full living color, so why shouldn’t we now with the technology we have turn it from a black-and-white war back into a color war again?”

This isn’t something I’d go to a theatre to see, but I am very interested in it.
