Previous Season
There’s no beating around the bush, the Delta Devils were bad. It’s one thing to be bad during a coaches first season, but not their fourth. Believe it or not, they weren’t even ranked last in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. That honor goes to Alabama A&M.
They had four wins, all were in conference play. Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Prairie View A&M, and Grambling State. I would not normally name all the wins, but there were only four so I felt that those needed their honor. Also, there really is only so much to write about a team that did so poorly.
This Season
There is not a lot of faith that this team will improve as they are picked to start where they ended at ninth in a ten team conference.
They are lead by forward Dante Scott. He was the lone player to make the SWAC all conference basketball team at the end of last season and is first team preseason this year. Dante averaged 14.9 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, and shot 77% from the line in 2017-18. Last year was his first year at Mississippi Valley State. He spent his sophomore year playing for the University of Memphis.
Prediction
Nebraska should not have a problem with the Delta Devils. If the win over Wayne State last Thursday tells us anything then this game should be over in the first ten minutes. I would expect at least 4 or 5 players in double digits and the entire bench getting ample playing time in this home opener. If this was Grambling State or Texas Southern from the SWAC then I would probably be a little wary of some problems the could occur against a well run squad.
Expect a full crowd at Pinnacle Bank Arena and a lot of scoring in a lopsided game in the Railyard.
