Pro Big Red: Huskers in the NFL Week 8

We’re halfway through the NFL season

This week was a little light in terms of Husker action in the NFL. Part of that is because the Dallas Cowboys were on a bye. There are three former Huskers on the Cowboys: Brett Maher, Maliek Collins and Randy Gregory. With Quincy Enunwa still injured there was again only one offensive player I’m going to talk about.

Offense

Ameer Abdullah RB - Detroit Lions: People have told me that Abdullah isn’t going to do anything in the NFL, and Sunday didn’t help his case. He got limited work on offense with one reception for six yards. The big mistake Abdullah made in this game was fumbling on a kickoff return after the Seahawks tied the game at 7. I still have faith in Abdullah, and hopefully another team will pick him up in the offseason and he can put in work. The Lions play the Vikings on Sunday at noon.

Defense

Prince Amukamara CB - Chicago Bears: The Bears beat the Jets on Sunday, and I wish Enunwa would’ve been playing because this could’ve been a cool matchup. Either way Amukamara had a pretty good game recording two tackles. That may seem low, but with how inept the Jets’ offense looked I would say it’s pretty good. The Bears take on the Bills on Sunday at noon.

Lavonte David LB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers: David continued his strong season against the Bengals this past week when he recorded eight tackles. Jameis Winston, the Bucs QB, threw four interceptions and was benched. The Bucs defense stepped up during the comeback, but they fell short. The Bucs play the Panthers on Sunday at noon.

Ndamukong Suh DT - Los Angeles Rams: The Rams are rolling, they are the only undefeated team in the NFL halfway through the season. A big part of their success is credited to teams not being able to run up the middle on Suh and his partner in crime Aaron Donald. Suh had two tackles in the Rams’ game against the Packers. The Rams play the Saints on Sunday at 3:25 in what some consider to be a matchup of the top two teams in the league. It should be a good one.

Special Teams

Sam Koch P - Baltimore Ravens: Koch had his longest punt of the season, 57 yards, this past week against the Panthers. In this game against the Panthers Koch had three punts, and his average punt was 51 yards. Not too bad. The Ravens play the Steelers on Sunday at noon.
