Nebraska scored on its first possession, looking crisp as a fall day, as Devine Ozigbo took off around the end on a 40-yard run. Adrian Martinez was perfect throwing on the drive, going 4-4 for 23 yards. All this in less than two minutes.
It is a great day to be a Husker!
Minnesota tried a 54-yard field goal at the end of the first quarter, but a delay of game penalty forced Minnesota to punt the ball.
Near the end of the first quarter, Nebraska ran a play that resembled the old “statue of liberty” play where Adrian Martinez appeared to throw but handed off to Maurice Washington behind his back. On the next play, Ozigbo took off on a 59-yard touchdown run, the longest run for a touchdown since your last good time in the sack. That’s a long time. Don’t lie.
At the end of the first quarter, Ozigbo had three rushes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. That’s the kind of stuff you want to see out of our beloved Huskers. Offense, moving. Defense... well, kind of stopping.
Nebraska scored again. 21-0. YES, 21-0. The third touchdown came on a 3-yard run by Martinez. And what else? At this point in the game, our beloved Huskers had not been called for a single penalty. NOT ONE PENALTY AT THIS POINT.
You were thinking - WHO IS THIS TEAM? WHAT IS GOING ON?
Yes, I went with a song from “Paint Your Wagon”. Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood starred in the movie version. It was a great movie, play, soundtrack. Sometimes I still play it on my Alexa and drive my children crazy.
Nebraska’s first penalty of the game came after JD Spielman scored on a 9-yard reception that was thrown as a bullet between two Gopher defenders. The penalty was unsportsmanlike conduct on Brenden Jaimes. No one cared except Scott Frost, and things will be taken care of after the game is over.
Minnesota scored just before the half. Zack Annexstad connected with Dimetrius Morris on a 13-yard pass play with :56 left. Then the Gopher got trixsy and scored on a two point conversion.
Nebraska has 398 total yards of offense.
Devine Ozigbo has seven carries for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Adrian Martinez is 16-for-19 for 124 yards and a touchdown.
