Tonight the college football National Championship game will take place against the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. It’s basically an SEC fan’s dream. I’ve never understood the draw of strong conference pride but the south seems to have a corner on the market.
Not to say there isn’t the same thing here in the Big Ten. Many fans across the Midwest are very proud of their conference’s accomplishments. It just seems to me that the SEC takes it to the next level. Then again, it’s probably the only thing fans from Vanderbilt and Arkansas might have.
Well, we do have Rutgers so.....
I never felt like Nebraska fans had this when I was growing up in the Big 8 and eventually in the Big 12. If anything, the Big 12 membership pushed away anything close to conference pride we had. Being happy we got beat by Texas and then the Longhorns winning the National Championship just never made sense and I guess most Nebraska fans felt the same. Making the transition to the Big Ten an interesting one to say the least.
No matter how you look upon this situation it should be a good game. At least in regards to brunt strength and athleticism. It may be boring, but it will be the peak college football athletes playing against each other for the title.
