Casey Rogers, three star strongside defensive end, has verbally committed to be a Husker! Rogers, a lacrosse star from Connecticut, decided to dispense with the popped collars and deck shoes to give football a whirl. He spent the last year at Old Farms School, a private school in Avon, CT playing tight end and defensive end. On the recruiting trail, he was invited to official visits and Ohio State and Alabama. His main interests besides the Huskers were Vanderbilt, Indiana, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Virginia. The official visit to Lincoln impressed him so much, he canceled his upcoming visit to Vandy and pulled the trigger for Dear Ole Nebraska U.
Rogers’ highlights show good burst and penetration on passing downs. He uses swim move to good effect, and has the height and reach to knock down a lot of passes. He has pretty good speed for his size, chasing down quite a few running backs and quarterbacks. On running downs, I feel he needs to work on playing lower and staying parallel to the line of scrimmage more. Remember he is new to the sport of football. His highlight reel is in chronological order, and you can see the growth from the beginning of the season to the end. Towards the end of the season, he shows an improved ability to stand up his blocker and play gaps. This is a player that will need development, but has the frame and athleticism to do so.
This commitment moves the class ranking to 34, seventh in the B1G, four spots behind Minnesota. Welcome to the husker family, Casey! GBR!
