Greetings and salutations Husker faithful, insecure Hawkeye fans, filthy Jayskers, and newcomers who mistakenly cheer for other teams! The dead period is FINALLY over. That means Scott Frost and company better get back to shaking babies and kissing hands with a quickness!
Fearless Leader Scott Frost and his Superlative Staff are looking to utilize the momentum created from the big Peach Bowl win and UCF’s National Championship* to generate some recruiting buzz and close on some solid recruits. They have a big visiting group scheduled right off the bat to fill the class as quickly as possible. Here are the visitors confirmed thus far:
Braxton Clark, 6-3 CB out of FL and Virginia Tech decommit. He has good speed and quickness for his size. Husker lean.
Jarrett Bell, Offensive Guard, had shown heavy interest in UCLA and was passed on by their new coaching staff. Huskers have a good chance here.
Matthew Tago, 6-3 223lb ATH. Frost is recruiting him as a second QB in the class, who could also be utilized in other positions if need be. Has a man bun. Why?
Kendrick Torain, DB/WR prospect and UCLA decommit. USF, Maryland and Louisville are the competition here. How does Louisville have so much recruiting pull? They’re not a competitive team, there’s less players in the NFL than even us, and I’ve heard of maybe two of them. Someone explain this to me!
Javontae Jean-Baptiste (no relation), four star OLB and possibly top defensive target on the board. Virginia Tech wants this player equally bad. Ohio State just offered him and have a visit set up for Jan 19. I would really like him to be N, but he’s going to be a Buckeye. Which is too bad, because I thought the (no relation) bit would be funny his whole career.
Dominick Watt, the WR out of Florida, is rumored to be scheduled for this weekend. He was supposedly coming Dec 15 as well. I don’t know about this kid.
**UPDATE** See, now he’s coming on Feb 2. Although this time, it appears to be Husker staff pushing him off. Plan C kid, evidently.
Maurice Washington, RB prospect who blew up at the Under Armour All-America game. He was an academic risk and a heavy Husker lean, but now it appears Nebraska was the fallback while he fished for better offers. Ole Mi$$ and Tennessee visits are scheduled after ours, don’t think he’s going to be N. Although, several recruiting analysts at the pay sites do not agree. Hope I’m wrong, just seen this movie too many times.
Ta’Zhawn Henry, speedy RB prospect out of Texas, friends with DB prospect and heavy Husker lean Cam’ron Jones. Fully expect him to go home a Husker, especially with the Washington situation developing the way it has.
**UPDATE** Henry has been asked to move his visit back, and will be going to Oregon State this weekend. Apparently the staff is more confident in Washington than I am.
Corbin Frederick, an unranked DB from Mansfield TX, the same school as DB recruit Cam’ron Jones. Frederick has offers from Navy and San Diego, and a Preferred Walk-On offer from Nebraska. Jones is coming with Frederick and Henry. I’ll bet you a dollar the Huskers get all three of these guys.
Miles Jones, another small, fast WR/ATH. A Vandy commit since March who didn’t sign early. He is probably the number two choice behind Washington, because he’s so versatile. There is a good probability of a flip happening here.
Taiyon Palmer, four star cornerback and Duke decommit. He has visits scheduled with the Huskers and NC State. He is friends with Miles Jones, so maybe a bit of peer recruiting happening here. This guy is a big need.
Breon Dixon, an Ole Miss player looking to transfer after the sanctions. He played DB for three games as a true freshman, and projects as a hybrid OLB/Nickel in the Chinander 3-4. Look for him to just stay in Lincoln and start classes if he likes what he sees.
**UPDATE** Things have gotten real quiet with Dixon. Tea leaves say he figured out it might be difficult to get clearance from NCAA to play immediately and he’s having second thoughts. We’ll see what happens here.
Daniel Carson, SDE out of Independence MO. For once, location is in our favor here. His mom wants him N so she can come to all his games. Also, she is coming along for his visit. Competitors for his services are Texas and Miami. This weekend is his last visit; he is announcing on his birthday (Jan 19). I had written this guy off, but with mom on our side, I’m feeling N.
Mike Williams, blazing fast JUCO WR from Last Chance U. He was just offered last
Saturday, and committed on Wednesday. Really he’s just moving in. He starts classes and conditioning on Monday.
This list will be updated as other visitors are confirmed. Coach Frost is looking to take 22-24 at this point. Currently sitting at 38, I believe we’re still looking good for a high 20’s to low 30’s class. There are good probabilities on all these prospects to commit and contribute. Stay tuned for news as these guys become #AllN!
**UPDATE Thurs 4:31pm**
Well, cynicism wins again. RB Maurice Washington’s visit has been cancelled.
Also, Braxton’s Clark’s visit has been pushed back as the staff likes where it’s at with Taiyon Palmer.
BUT, on the positive side, SDE recruit Caleb Tannor is now coming. A hybrid DE/OLB pass-rushing type (badly needed), he was a heavy Auburn lean until he saw them get handled in the Peach Bowl, and he wants to come be with winners! War Eagle!
